AAA is an excellent resource. They can trace your journey to the office or online. They give you free maps too if you are a member. Definitely worth the premium.
Let me answer one of your questions - how to get there.
Use maps Yahoo! Enter your destination and your starting point and the software will tell you how.
Happy Holidays!
Because prices change all the time, it is unlikely that any computer program can be updated. There are books for that too, but they leave the date as well. Your best bet is the Internet because the data can be updated in real time.
For current prices of gasoline, see www.gasbuddy.com It lists the prices of locations across the country as reported by users of the site.
For hotel prices, see any major travel website like Expedia or Orbitz. You can sometimes find great deals on the websites of hotel chains.
There are programs that help pave the road and determine the distances. However, you can do the same thing for free on www.mapquest.com.
I use mapquest to do most of my travel planning especailly when it is a road trip. There are hotels, gas stations, restaurants and other points of interest.
Also, if you are a member AAA they can develop a road trip for you right on their site.
