Edinburgh was the capital city of Scotland 1437 and is the second largest city in Scotland. The city is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Europe and is the second in London for popularity in the United Kingdom.

Attractions
In Edinburgh, there are many attractions in the city center, but one of the main attractions is simply to walk around the new and the old city areas of the city. Here you can enjoy the many historic buildings and beautiful architecture that is all over.

The most popular attraction of Edinburgh is Edinburgh Castle, Edinburgh this icon that dominates the city center on the elevated site of Castle Rock. There is a rich history that comes with the castle and it starts in 1093 and has seen its share of violence and political intrigue. Robert the Bruce, Mary Queen of Scots and Bonnie Prince Charlie have all played parts in making casts interesting story.

In downtown, you can enjoy great attractions free, two of the most popular are the Museum of Scotland and botany. Both are within walking distance of downtown and are ideal for those visiting Edinburgh on a budget or looking for a family event.

Edinburgh boasts some of the best quality accommodation in Scotland with a wide choice of luxury hotels available. Two of the most famous hotels in Edinburgh are Balmoral Hotel and the Scotsman are both located in the downtown and offer a high quality five stars.

If you do not have to spend £ 100 for one nights accommodation do not worry because there are some great budget hostel accommodation available. They start at only £ 8 per night per person for a bed in a dormitory. One of the most popular is Smart City which is located downtown and excellent facilities.

Events

 

Summer is when Edinburgh comes alive with festivals and events taking place in July and August. The two best known and most popular are the Military Tattoo at Edinburgh Castle and the International Fringe Festival.

The tattoo lasts three weeks in August and takes place at Edinburgh Castle, it is very popular and often booked well in advance of performance. It is a good idea to always try to book tickets well in advance.

Fringe Festival on the boats as being in the world's largest arts festival, with hundreds of acts of varying quality who participate each year. There is a good selection of free and paid two shows taking place and it can be a great place for new artists to break because it is open to everyone.

Transportation

Edinburgh is a very good service international airport which is only a few miles outside of downtown. From here you can get flights to over 40 top European cities and international destinations such as New York and Atlanta. A regular bus service connects to and from downtown to the airport and it costs about £ 5.

There are two stations in Edinburgh, Haymarket has a couple of miles outside the city center and close to Murrayfield rugby stadium. Waverley is located in the city center and only minutes walk from Princes Street. You can get trains from here to all major cities in Scotland.
