Scotland Island

Scotland IslandScotlands meet people, move to the Highlands and Islands

There are several reasons why people relocate anywhere, so why the Highlands and Islandsa I myself am not a native of Scotland, but like many others fell in love with the place. I can moan about the rainy, windy days, but I can not imagine living anywhere else!

I experienced both sides of Scotland from one of the most remote islands of the largest city in Scotland. Both are beautiful in their own way and character unlike anywhere else I lived.

Living in the Outer Hebrides completely changed my life. I had no idea these places hidden in the United Kingdom existed (although it was marked on the map BBC weather throughout!) It's a shame not many people the chance to discover Scotland in its raw form and only get to touch the tip of the iceberg on what to see. Finally, when you move to Scotland, do you feel looser than "tourist" and you become connected to the place a completely different way.

Scotland is littered with places where you might consider moving and it can have only one visit before you have your heart set on a place. Whether you are looking for the good life on a small farm or want the fast pace of the city there is something for everyone. I have experience at a time and have loved every minute. If only I could take what I have in the city to the islands, then this would be perfect!

Schools

If you have children, it is important to bare in mind the difference in the school system. Primary schools can work in two ways depending on where you are. Children start primary school at age 5 to age 11 (P1 to P6) to which they then move up to secondary school. However, in some communities in the highlands and the island, they could combine the elementary school with the first 3 years of secondary school (S3) and students, then move up to high school at the age 14 instead of (S1 to S5).

It is a much simpler system that I feel and saves a lot of travel. Experience to see my brothers in the movement from England to Scotland, it was a smoother transition between schools in mountainous areas and islands in particular, they tend to be better prepared for pupils to transfer a different course. Personally, I had more difficulty in moving schools in the same county in England. One thing to keep in mind, Scotland has no GCSE's or A-Levels. Instead they have Standard Grades and Highers!

Housing

In some parts of Scotland Buying a house is very different from the rest of the United Kingdom for the different laws surrounding the purchase of a house, it is best to contact a realtor in the area you are interested in purchasing.

In mountainous areas and islands, it is very common to your own croft land. My family did this to raise their own animals on a parcel of two acres of land beside a lake overlooking the sea is also popular for leasing their land to local farmers for the keeping of animals or some cultures. It does not make you much money, but it is great for the local economy long term, and it's so nice to see baby animals prancing around in the spring!

In Scotland it is very popular to buy and build your "own house kit. Overall it is a better way to get on the housing market. I saw a 2 bedroom single-storey houses from $ 30,000 (excluding land price) which is great because you can design it as you wish!

In cities, however, in recent years I have seen home prices creep to level with the rest of the United Kingdom if the cost of living seems to be less than what I experienced in England, all the rest is roughly the same. Glasgow and Edinburgh are the most expensive, but there are many online forums which you can join to find the best neighborhoods in the city to rent or buy and local taxes hotspots.
