I'm going through here distant memory .... I used to live in the Avalon beach just up the coast from Sydney (number 90 busa From Wynyard Stationa)
Sometimes I go to the isthmus (ie, large input of water across the land from the sea), renting a little tin boat and cross to 5hp Kuring Chase National Park . I anchor the boat on the beach, and somehow lock butgger yomping out in the bush for a few days.
Beautiful scenery, wild life, very wild and remote. Today, I strongly suggest you get a map - I really do not know how I managed to come back sometimes.
Sorry it's a bit vague and hey, good luck
Just keep driving until you find a good place
if you go on the dirt roads you more likely to find a good place because people are not as many will be there
and do not be afraid to go off the road
