Hey There Arcy welcome to Canberra.
The main website for the search of the property is http://www.allhomes.com.au
Another site is
http://www.realestate.com.au
http://www.hodgkinsonrealestate.com.au
You can search on the agency of these two sites if you want to use an agent. Although the main focus of the agent is the owner, it is preferable to have a situation of others, because then it is all recorded and everything is where it should be. That does not bother you if you were a great record keeper of course!
There are new complex assembling all the time. The latest is "The Metropolitan" on Marcus Clarke Street in the city.
High-end homes and upscale apartments rent ways so be prepared to wince a little.
Kingston, Barton, Manuka, Canberra City, Deakin, Forrest, Woden (Sky Plaza) acres are scaled up for rent.
For the suburbs, you have, but the scale begins to drop as far away from the main shopping area of Canberra.
To control the activities available this one out:

Want to have a look at the community starts:

My partner and I respond to dance - to meet people and develop lasting friendships:

All the best Arcy, maybe Monday I'll see you dance your feet off at school!
Try domain.com.au or realestate.com.au. They both have a lot of announcements and information. Regarding what to do, try citysearch.com.au.
I lived in Canberra for 28 years. With regard to apartment living, I would try the suburb of Kingston, Manuka, Lyneham Oconnor. They are good because there is a mix of locals and people like you here, you'll get to know other people. I aim to Kingston.
Good luck. It is an easy and pleasant city to live in
Search online for the Canberra Times, especially on Saturdays. (It is probably canberratimes.com.au but I have not checked) The ads will show you what is available for rental and purchase. The apartments are usually called apartments or units in Australia.
The document will also learn about the classes you want and many other things as well.
try www.realestate.com.au and search on your preferences - and yes they are called units / apartments or townhouses and duplexes here. I would go for Fisher, Belconnen, Isabella Plains, Gordon, Red Hill, in Lyon to name a few. www.canberracitysearch.com.au try and follow the links you provide information you request. He also www.canberraspot.com.au estate on there too and many other features that will answer your questions. Cheers!
Visit the websites of major people, real estate, L. J Hooker, etc. The professionals as already suggested. All these activities.
