The first thing you need to know about the dates:
Schoolies traditionally takes place over three weeks, each week is to attract students from another Australian state - namely Queensland, New South Wales and Victoria - with a maximum of 35,000 visits during the festival.

The event is organized mainly on the Gold Coast, but destinations like Byron Bay, Sunshine Coast, Airlie Beach, Tropical North Queensland and the Magnetic Island are also popular with school leavers.
Gold Coast
If you want a rough time with lots of partying, alcohol, police lines and nightclubs, then Gold Coast is your best bet But beware -. It's really crazy out there. About 25,000 Queensland Schoolies celebrate their graduation on the Gold Coast, most are 17 year olds. Brass slap huge fines on those caught drinking under age or on drugs.

The breakdown of the returnee that:
In 2009, Queensland Schoolies attended the celebrations from November 21-28.
NSW has hit the city of 28 November to December 6 and December graduates Victorian Day 5-13.
For 17 years:
The first week of the Gold Coast is potentially good for underagers because they host many events without alcohol on the beach, dances, concerts and film screenings.


During the first week of Schoolies, the central section of Surfers Paradise esplanade and the beach are closed each evening for exclusive access by Schoolies. Known as the Schoolies Hub, the region has a program of free entertainment over nine nights (Saturday, 21 November), with two floors, LED display, DJs and late night screenings. Schoolies officially receive a bracelet that can be obtained on proof of Year 12 photo ID student. If a student photo ID is not available, other forms of identity can be considered, including: driver's license or passport or student from Australia. There is no online registration for the Gold Coast Schoolies.
Gold Coast Schoolies who booked rooms in schoolies.com must collect their wristband at the registration of volunteer Red Frogs. Schoolies staying at alternative accommodation or visiting for the day can collect a bracelet wristband distribution center located on the Esplanade parallel to the center of Surfers Paradise Beach (see map Schoolies Hub.
For older people:
NSW and Victorian Schoolies are older, usually within 18 - the age of 19 years, and about 10,000 of them to celebrate their graduation in the nightclubs popular Gold Coast. This usually occurs during the second week of Schoolies.


Byron Bay
Byron Bay is pretty wild too, but expect fewer lines, police and hardcore antics. I would take it, but please. Best nightclubs in Byron Bay include:
Cheeky Monkeys (disco)
• Most parties Schoolies here - it is the most popular place
• A place where they made good music, you dance on tables
• Can be very moist as it is packed with people
• It is certainly the place to meet other Schoolies or cute backpackers / tourists
• Cost - Admission to get in, drinks are very cheap
• You can get (cheap) dinner there before it all starts around 10:30 p.m.

Cocomangas (nightclub)
• trendy place, good music
• Cost - Admission to enter
• opens around 9:30 p.m.

The Beach Hotel (Pub)
• Pretty great place to go
• Is the live music, dancing (if not every night)
• Great view, good one day and
• As one of the most popular Schoolies
• Free to enter
• Gets the narrow (but not in the wrong direction)
• Bottle shop located.
