Boston Hostel

Boston, appropriately for a city that is home to Harvard, one of the world's best known universities, is a haven for student travelers and backpackers. With its many bars, parks and a series of free things to do, a trip to the city need not wreck your budget. And while Boston hostels may not be particularly numerous, there are more than enough excellent cheap accommodation for everyone.

Budget Boston

Boston is many things: an intellectual, a melting pot of cultures and lifestyles, a historic monument and a very influential American city. And it is true that Boston is one of the richest cities in the U.S., it also offers a surprising number of cheap restaurants and bars, taverns, and attractions.

Taking in all Boston has to offer should not be a wallet breaking incident. My hostel in Boston, HI - Fenway, was the Commonwealth Ave, has been at the center of nightlife in the city, and I could easily branch and find tons of fun things to do, all for next to-nothing price ..

Getting around the city

Once you arrive in Boston, be sure to familiarize yourself with your environment and transportation options. While Boston is relatively low, it is connected by a series of districts and neighborhoods that could move a bit confusing. The "T", or the subway is very easy to get around with and you will soon zipping around the hub, to all Boston has to offer.

Depending how long you stay, you can buy one, three or seven days pass, (known as the "Charlie Card") for an unlimited number "T" and buses. All prices are reasonable and tickets can be purchased at any subway stop.

Eating and Drinking Flights

Local specialties include lobster in Boston, clam chowder and baked beans (if no resident ever actually called 'Beantown' Boston as some travel writers would lead you to believe). And while these dishes were made Boston famous, you are certainly not limited to them.

Stop at the North End, home to Boston's Little Italy. You can avoid the wholesale price by being inserted in one of many "holes in the wall" - small restaurants not so obvious with authentic Italian food at lower cost. Be sure to check out one of the many bakeries in the region and stellar. It would be a sin to go to the north end and not indulge in a cannoli or Italian pastry.

Another great place to eat is historic Quincy Market in downtown Boston. The bustling market houses one of the world's best food courts. The market building is a beautifully restored old brick to contain a central seating area in the middle of the rectangular building. Two corridors extending left and right are completely lined with bars and vendors selling several varieties of delicious dishes and drinks. You can find everything from clam chowder in a bread bowl with swordfish kebabs to pizza to some of the best desserts around. The best part is, everything is cheap!

Boston has one of the largest Irish populations in the U.S. Not surprisingly, there are tons of great Irish pubs, you can duck in to quench your thirst. Aside from that, the city also offers great, character support bars in each district, especially near the old Boston Garden, where the game Celtics and Bruins. Unfortunately, most museums and galleries in Boston to charge an entrance fee, but with a little research you can find lots of free things to do. You should definitely check out Samuel Adams Brewery in Jamaica Plain, EPM.
